Bolster Supply Chain Transparency

MK sports Foods reports on key welfare indicators and third-party audit results each year as a way of demonstrating progress and identifying opportunities in these two important measures of performance.
Key Welfare Indicators

We use outcome-based key welfare indicators (KWIs) because they measure how different aspects of a living environment impact an animal. We selected specific indicators to focus on that can be measured consistently across our operations. In our poultry operations, our key welfare indicators are aligned with the metrics identified by the International Poultry Welfare Alliance as those which are important to measure, monitor, and manage to assess and/or improve poultry welfare. Our business leadership and the Office of Animal Welfare approve these metrics, and we monitor progress by reviewing them throughout the year and reporting annually. Today’s KWIs are not a finish line, however; once we have met our targets, we raise the goal we are aiming to achieve and we add new KWIs as we strive for continuous improvement.

Through a robust animal welfare auditing strategy, we ensure that high standards for animal health and welfare and industry best practices are implemented, enforced and verified across our operations and supply chain.

Facility Audits

Summaries of our recent third-party U.S. animal welfare audits are publicly available for our chicken and turkey, beef and pork harvest facilities.

Global Animal Welfare Supplier Survey

To enhance the transparency of our global supply chain, we have implemented an annual global animal welfare supplier survey in which we collect information from our suppliers on their animal welfare policies, programs and practices. This information enables us to better assess our supply chain, make informed policy updates and further support our internal animal welfare initiatives.
